What’s been happening??…
Well! a few things, firstly I drew the hand-trees in my sketchbook that you see above. I saw a few hand reference images and imagined them being the roots and branches of trees. Love the concept, probably not new though. I just really enjoyed drawing them and how they turned out.
Another thing is I managed to attain a rocking chair! I decorated it with some patchwork granny square crochet I made (haven’t finished the base yet). It’s so fun to sit in and the rocking is very soothing. It has definitely multiplied my crochet production! Not going to lie, I have fallen asleep in this thing at least once since getting it…
On to…
Goals check-in!!
Fibre Art:
Crochet: I have nearly done some crochet everyday since last months check-in! It’s been great, can attest the rocking chair has certainly helped in that department. I did the chair covering and I managed to finish a big project, a Glitter Shawl for my Mum! The yarn I used has glitter through-out and the shawl turned out really nicely…
Knitting: I did practice here and there but nothing substantial.
Embroidery: Didn’t do any this time around.
Artwork/Drawing:
Traditional: Much! I did a bit in my sketchbook and other pieces. This piece below I made by taking etchings of leaves I found, adding the gold ink with a stick I also found, as well as adding some watercolour and colour pencil:
I really like the markings the leaves made and how the stick was a little difficult to control, adding an element of unpredictability. So fun!
Digital: I haven’t really been doing much digital work lately… in fact none at all. Taking a small break I guess. I would really love to get back into making my comic if I’m up to it. Comic: Awkward Annie’s Awful Adventures. I’m hoping I can go through my ideas list and if something sparks I’ll try make a few comic bits.
On the digital note -I also would really love to touch on animations again, just short little things. Oh, and do some digital drawing/painting in general! My iPad has been feeling a little neglected lately.
Social Posting:
TikTok: I did make a very short video that showed off my yarn hording tendencies! Other than that nothing. But, a least it’s something
Instagram: A few stories, but no actual posts. Oops!
YouTube: I’m planning on doing a “Half-way Sketchbook Tour” once I actually reach half way in my sketchbook. I have 4 pages left! How exciting haha. Other than that no shorts or anything else posted. But I feel the plan of a video is a good step!
General Thoughts:
If you crochet or knit, I highly recommend getting yourself a rocking chair!!! 10/10… It completely adds to the experience. And you can, if you so wish, give yourself the “creative ol’ granny” title (like I have done for myself) as the granny-ness will be in full force! It’s great. I’m looking forward to getting all those crochet granny squares done for the base panel of my chair cover, one day. It was a huge enough task getting the ones I had done.
Fun fact. Those crochet granny squares where intended for a blanket I started making way back in Sept 2022! I was going to make a granny square base blanket then add eye appliques on top here and there. It was going to be my “Eye blanket” but then the chair came along, and after being in the background for so long and in storage, I decided the squares best suited the rocking chair and, without the intended eyes. So I made a little eye plushie, you can see sitting on the chair, using some of the eyes I had already made up.
I think that almost covers most of the the things.
Catch you next time!
Thanks for reading,
Lellie
